Land use planning and Sustainable Development regional strategies of Eastern Uruguay

The Land use planning and Sustainable Development strategies are defined as “INSTRUMENTS OF STRUCTURAL NATURE relating to the national territory which, covering wholly or partially areas of two or more departments that share problems and opportunities in terms of development and territorial management, need supra-departmental coordination for their optimal and effective planning”. It constitutes an innovative and unprecedented planning instrument which requires a process with a strong level of articulation and creativity in the areas of the governments involved. Furthermore, it aims for the planning of the integrated development and environmentally sustainable of the area, through the territorial planning and forecasting of the transformation processes and adopting the year 2030 as a time frame, in order to enable long-term prospective analysis.
