Study Concerning an Eco-City in Benslimane. Morocco

Benslimane is a city in Morocco of the Casablanca-Settat Region. The transition of Benslimane towards an Eco-city is based on the development of the following lines of intervention:

 

1. URBAN INNOVATION. Actions aimed at the REVITALIZATION OF THE EXISTING CITY, at the establishment of guidelines and strategies for the design of COMPACT and MULTIFUNCTIONAL residential neighborhoods, at the creation of a NETWORK OF CENTRALITIES of different scales correctly distributed in the city. It also tries to revalue the local heritage, create new POLICIES OF TOURIST AND BUSINESS ACTIVITY that contribute to reinforce the economic competitiveness and promote the RESEARCH AND TRAINING (New University).

2. SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY. Based on the proposal for the design of a collective transport network, more ACCESSIBLE AND EFFICIENT, and the preparation of a SOFT MOBILITY master PLAN which promotes the INTERMODALITY and enables the recovery of PUBLIC SPACE FOR CITIZENSHIP and non-motorized modes, by applying the concept of SUPERBLOCK as a reference functional unit.

3. URBAN METABOLISM. Proposal for the establishment of a SUSTAINABLE INFRASTRUCTURE INTEGRAL CENTER, to promote ENERGY SAVINGS AND POWER EFFICIENCY measures, to optimize domestic water supplies, and to reuse PURIFIED WATER for the irrigation of public spaces. Promotion of SUSTAINABLE WASTE MANAGEMENT, through actions aimed at improving infrastructure for the collection and reuse of waste.

4. BIODIVERSITY. Proposal of elaboration of a GREEN AND BIODIVERSITY PLAN that, promotes the INTERRELATION between the public spaces of the city and the BIOLOGICAL CONNECTIVITY. It is proposed the design of an ENVIRONMENTAL AXIS, ENVIRONMENT of transition between the city and the Forest Reserve, of an ECOLOGICAL PARK for the enjoyment, promotion and knowledge of the biodiversity of the area, and of a pilot project of WATER IRRIGATION OF LOCAL GARDEN WITH PURIFIED WATER.

5. DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION. Proposals to make Benslimane a “DIGITAL VILLAGE” ACCESSIBLE to all citizens, promotion of the Master Plan of Digital Transformation, implementation of HOTSPOT and development of programs for the TRAINING of the population.

6. ECO-CITIZENSHIP, development of programs for the training of the resident population in the field of urban ecology and encourage the use of DAILY SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES and respectful with the environment.
