Studies Related to the Promotion of Eco-Neighbourhoods. The Case of ” Gueliz Est” Eco-Neighbourhood in Marrakesh. Morocco

The project focuses on the so-called Unité 4 of Gueliz Est. It proposes the intervention on a consolidated district of the east periphery of Marrakech city, UNDER THE CRITERIA OF SUSTAINABILITY, SOCIAL BALANCE AND URBAN AND ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY. The proposal of urban transformation is based on three main axes or lines of actions:

  1. Anew functional organization of the neighborhood is proposed, based on the applicationof the concept of SUPERBLOCK. The channelling of road traffic and the selective location of parking enables the REORGANIZATION OF THE INTERNAL PUBLIC SPACE and its redevelopment and design as a unitary platform for the COEXISTENCE AND COHABITATION of the non-motorised mobility and for the implantation of ACTIVE SPACES OF SOJOURN AND LEISURE of the resident population.
  2. Interventions are proposed to revitalize the neighborhood and RECOVER THE LOCAL SPHERE, based on the addition of new installations locally, as well as on the creation of new local CENTRALITIES and on the DYNAMIZATION of the existing local network.
  3. The redevelopment of public space will allow the creation of a network of NEIGBORHOOD PARKS for residents of the eco-neighborhood and intends to INCREASE THE NATURAL CAPITAL by means of the design of a new ‘vegetation cover’ that wraps the residential fabric, PERMEABILISE THE LAND and enables the development of the URBAN AGRICULTURE. The focus is on the IMPROVEMENT OF THE URBAN METABOLISM, and similarly it proposes measures and programs destined to promote GOOD PRACTICES INCONSUMPTION ANDRESOURCE MANAGEMENT.
