Costa Del Sol Regional Plan (Málaga)

The Western Costa del Sol plays an important role within the framework of one of the geographical areas with the greatest impact on the transformation of the country during the last century, being a PARADIGMATIC TERRITORY in economic policy discourses and essays, in what is called “GROWTH MACHINE”, territorial expression of an economic model focused on the real estate sector. This territorial enclave, originally promoted, planned and promoted for the productive use of REGULATED TOURISM, organized with service companies and professional workers, has finally been appropriated by real estate development and less intense services to users of non-main dwellings and climatic residents. This situation reveals a territorial, economic and social DEEP PROBLEMS, and therefore indicates the unsustainability of the model. The main objectives of the Plan are to GUARANTEE TERRITORIAL COHESION and (RE) EQUILIBRIUM of the area, the VALUE of the natural heritage and the OPTIMIZATION of the real capacity of the current planning.
